In the exhibition Visual Archaeology thanks to 3D digital copies and 3D printing we showed the entire process of minting. Starting from a cast copy of a Syracusan coin, thanks to the structured-light 3D scanner Scan in a Box, it was possible to obtain a digital copy of the object. The “digital coin” was used, thanks to 3D modelling techniques, as a base to re-create the mould used for minting it. Then the two moulds and the digital coins were 3D printed and were a very attractive spot of the exhibition. In this case a SLA technology was used for obtaining a very small detailed and preicse copy of the coin.
